(RE)GENERATION
Exhibition art book of Reiffers Art Initiatives
The art book (RE)GENERATION retraces the exhibition at the Reiffers Art Center for the third edition of the Reiffers Art Initiatives Prize, bringing together the works of five emerging artists selected by the artistic committee: Clédia Fourniau, 2024 laureate, Majd Abdel Hamid, Alex Ayed, Garance Früh, and Aïcha Snoussi.
Following Pol Taburet in 2022 and Ser Serpas in 2023, the committee recognized Clédia Fourniau for the quality of her artistic approach. Born in France in 1992, Clédia Fourniau explores the gestural dimension of abstract painting, questioning the relationship between body and space, as well as the conditions of creation and reception of an artwork. Working in series, she creates paintings that seem to simultaneously expand and fold in on themselves. The artist engages in an accumulation of gestures and layers of paint, where each stratum is both a covering and an implosion of the canvas.
By layering materials and textures, Clédia Fourniau brings forth new dynamics in reading the image, where traces buried in the depths of the composition interlock with the upper layers. The final coat of glossy, waterproof resin—typically used for boat hulls—creates a mirror-like space that incorporates our bodies, deconstructs reality, and questions our relationship with it.
