Numéro art 16

WOLFGANG TILLMANS  in cover story

As has become customary, once again this season Numéro art ventures off the paths of contemporary art to discover other forms of creation. Hideo Kojima, iconoclastic video game legend with an overflowing imagination, opens the doors of his studio in Tokyo. At 61, Kojima is one of the most sought-after authors in Hollywood and the music world. For Numéro art, he agreed to be scanned in 3D in order to integrate the exclusive digital images of artist Frederik Heyman. Their two worlds, influenced by science fiction and fantasy, were made for each other.

But Numéro art doesn't forget contemporary art and the season's major exhibitions. Also on the cover, Lucas Arruda, celebrated at the Musée d'Orsay and in Nîmes, welcomed us to his homeland in Brazil. We followed him into the heart of the landscapes that populate his canvases for a series of never-before-seen photos. Finally, our third cover is devoted to Wolfgang Tillmans, who is taking the Bibliothèque du Centre Pompidou by storm in June, before the institution closes for renovation. The artist received us in his Berlin studio for a long interview.

Numéro art also accompanied artist and director Théo Mercier to Bologna, where he met opera legend Romeo Castellucci. In these pages, both share their common vision of demanding, radical and provocative art. Finally, we invited young French artist and DJ Christelle Oyiri, aka Crystallmess, for a carte blanche she has chosen to devote to the actors of the night - party collectives, artists or club and bar bouncers.
