UGO RONDINONE & TAREK LAKHRISSI
Exhibition Book – Reiffers Initiatives Mentoring Program 2024 Ugo Rondinone & Tarek Lakhrissi: Who is afraid of red blue & yellow?
Who is afraid of red blue & yellow? is the sixth art book published by Reiffers Initiatives, which presents the 2024 edition of its mentoring program. Since 2021, Reiffers Initiatives has been committed to supporting emerging artists and promoting cultural diversity within the French contemporary art scene. Each year in October, our mentorship exhibition brings together a leading international figure of contemporary art and a young French artist, which is an essential part of our mission.
In 2024, world-renowned artist Ugo Rondinone — whose work has been showcased from the Château de Versailles to MoMA PS1 in New York — chose to mentor French artist Tarek Lakhrissi. Their joint exhibition opened during Art Basel Paris in October.
Who is afraid of red blue and yellow? was conceived by the two artists as a fully immersive experience. For the occasion, the Reiffers Initiatives exhibition spaces were entirely transformed by Ugo Rondinone and Tarek Lakhrissi enables the expression of the three central colors of their project: red, blue, and yellow.
The exhibition unfolds across three rooms, the Red Room, the Blue Room, and the Yellow Room beneath the striking glass roof. Within each space, a poetic dialogue emerges between works by Ugo Rondinone and Tarek Lakhrissi’s. This art works include Ugo Rondinone’s Clocks, inspired by clock faces and stained glass and Tarek Lakhrissi’s pieces: ranging from his very first video Hard to Love to his most recent Cœur brillant, from his bed-sculpture Sick Sad World to embroidered textile poems, glass suns, and striking pendulums created especially for the show.
