Numéro art 9
Georg BASELITZ in cover story
For this issue, Numéro art met with Rashid Johnson in his Brooklyn studio. Over two decades, the very committed artist has become an international star, with works dealing with African-American identities and histories, its revolts and its cultures. The magazine also met with art legend Georg Baselitz, whose work will be showcased through a big Parisian retrospective at Centre Pompidou this Fall. Exhibition curator and French museum of Modern art’s honorary director Bernard Blistène, and Paris Museum of modern art director Fabrice Hergott both wrote about the German artist’s impact in contemporary art history.
Reading Numéro art’s pages also allows to discover artists and names that matter in the art world : our big interview with Afro-American artist Mark Bradford, praised in the whole world (from Venice Biennale to his recent exhibition in Minorca), our selection of unmissable exhibitions during FIAC week (from Alexander Calder’s giant sculpture on Place Vendôme to Jean Claracq’s solo show), an exclusive conversation between young painter Florian Krewer (recently shown at Bourse de commerce) and international curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, young and fresh talents from the French artistic scene, from Sophie Varin to Kim Farkas, hallucinatory pictures made by British photographer Maisie Cousins (invited by the Paris Photo fair in November), an original project by young French artist Aïda Bruyère (whose solo show at Palais de Tokyo will open in November), an interview with Thomas Demand, major figure of conceptual photography and an carte blanche to Balenciaga.
